It is our pleasure to invite you to the American Red Cross and IFRC co-hosted launch of the

Global Disaster Preparedness Center

The event will include high-level speakers and interactive activities related to current efforts and initiatives around the world in disaster preparedness.

With Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies as its primary target audience, the center will focus on launching a host of services and initiatives, the center will focus on launching a host of services and initiatives, including an interactive website to foster learning, exchange of materials and  networking around DP; mobile phone applications with preparedness-related information; a research program that will fund studies on topics such as the value of social media in public awareness; and cost benefit analysis of disaster preparedness interventions.

Participants are invited to join us for two related events: 

InterAction Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group

The event will include lunch hosted by the GDPC, during which time the InterAction Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, alongside the Emergency Building Capacity Project, will soft launch: Toward Resilience: A Guide to Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.

Iconathon with The Noun Project

On Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 10am – 3pm the Global Disaster Preparedness Center together with The Noun Project will bring together representatives from the creative community and Disaster Preparedness practitioners for an Iconathon to develop a new set of disaster preparedness symbols. If you are interested in participating please RSVP by Monday, October 8. The event will take place in the same venue as the launch event.

The American Red Cross, together with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent  (IFRC) Societies have established the Global Disaster Preparedness Center to support the growing needs for innovation in disaster preparedness, and field-level learning and knowledge sharing for Disaster Preparedness practitioners worldwide. The Center will serve as a resource hub on disaster preparedness for the entire global Red Cross and Red Crescent network.
